This book offers, for the first time in a Western language, a complete and detailed visual survey of the shrine and of its architectural history, from the beginning till 2012. Illustrated with 800 photographs (archive pictures, recent photographs, architectural plans), most of them unpublished, this book also includes an extensive bibliography, a glossary, historical maps, two indexes. Its author, Dr Patrick Ringgenberg, received for The Symbolic Universe of Islamic Arts (L’Harmattan, 2009), the World Prize for the Book of the Year of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Farabi International Award in 2012.
